Dana White on Conor McGregor UFC Punishment: 'We'll See What Happens'

Matt JonesApr 30, 2018

UFC boss Dana White gave little away when asked about what punishment Conor McGregor will be facing from the company following his recent arrest.

McGregor is due back in court in New York on June 14 to face criminal charges after his attack on a UFC bus April 5. He is also set to face sanctions from the UFC, although White wouldn't provide any details on what they might be.

"He's gotta be punished by the law first," he told TMZ. "Let's see what happens in New York."

McGregor was arrested after it was alleged he turned up at a UFC media day at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, and attacked a bus with a dolly.

As a result of injuries sustained in the incident, two competitors on board—Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg—had to pull out of their fights scheduled for UFC 223.

McGregor subsequently surrendered to authorities. While he was released after his bail of $50,000 was paid, the Irishman will answer to charges of assault and criminal mischief. As relayed by TMZ, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is potentially facing seven years in jail.

McGregor's last competitive combat sports outing was his boxing match August 17 against Floyd Mayweather, but it's a long time since he's been active in the UFC.

His last fight in the brand came in November 2016 against Eddie Alvarez. The win for McGregor that night saw him make UFC history as he clinched the lightweight title and became the first fighter to hold two belts in two different weight classes at the same time.
