Baker Mayfield on Critics of Browns' No. 1 Pick: 'Everybody Has Their Opinions'
Baker Mayfield isn't sweating the critics.
"It's fine," he told TMZ Sports when asked how he was responding to the fans and analysts critical of his selection as the top overall pick in the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns. "Everybody has their opinions, and they're entitled to it."
Don't expect that Mayfield won't use it as motivation, however. In March, Robert Klemko of SI.com reported that Mayfield made a list of media members who crossed a line, to him, when critiquing him. He later explained how he handles criticism to Russell Wilson during an episode of Wilson's QB2QB show on ESPN.
"At the same time it really doesn't bother me that much, because I know the people that say some of these things have never actually taken a snap behind center, never had a 300-pound lineman about to hit them while they have to read the defense downfield," he said.
He added: "If I was worried too much about it, I'd be worried about the wrong things. But I do use some of it as motivation. I can listen to all the people patting me on the back, or I can listen to the people saying I need to get better. I know I need to get better, or else there would be nobody saying that."
