Lukaku, 24, had played a key role in United's opening goal, scored by Paul Pogba, but was unable to continue after he was cleaned up by Konstantinos Mavropanos.
United will be desperately hoping for a positive prognosis as the Belgium international is one of the club's most crucial players.
He has started 33 of United's 35 Premier League games so far this term and netted 26 goals in all competitions.
Though United will be eager to hang on to second spot in the Premier League to the end of the season, they actually have little left to play for in the English top flight.
However, they do have an FA Cup Final against Chelsea looming on May 19, and the Red Devils will hope Lukaku is fully fit again by then.
