Hawks HC Rumors: David Fizdale Interviewing for Vacancy
The Atlanta Hawks aren't wasting time in their search to find a new head coach.
Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale is interviewing with the Hawks on Saturday.
The Hawks announced on Wednesday a parting of ways with Mike Budenholzer after going 24-58 during the 2017-18 season.
Budenholzer spent five seasons in Atlanta from 2013 to 2018. He compiled a 213-197 record with four straight playoff appearances in his first four seasons, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015.
Fizdale has been a hot coaching candidate for teams this offseason. Stein noted the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks have courted him in their pursuits of a new coach.
The Grizzlies fired Fizdale after a 7-12 start this season. He went 43-39 with the team during the 2016-17 campaign, losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
