John Wall: Bradley Beal Had 'MVP-Type Season' Despite Loss vs. Raptors

Mike ChiariApr 28, 2018

The Toronto Raptors took Game 6 on Friday and the series, winning 102-92 over the Washington Wizards, but John Wall had major praise for teammate Bradley Beal.

Wall was disappointed—especially after missing 41 games due to a knee injury—but he stressed the importance of Beal's continued growth, according to ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk:

"For me, [this] was upsetting, [mostly] because I miss 40-something games. And for these guys to even compete the way they did and for Brad to have an MVP-type season for our team and making more strides is big time for us. He held it down, and other guys competed and made it a fun season and had an opportunity to make the playoffs. Other than that point, it was disappointing for me to miss so many games."

Beal was named an All-Star for the first time during the regular season and finished with per-game averages of 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

He carried that over to the playoffs, averaging 23.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.

The Wizards were only able to garner the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference with Wall on the shelf for half the season, but he believes the team can be better:

"I think we have an opportunity this summer to try to make our team better. Being in the situation before where we fall short in certain situations, most importantly, me and Brad just keep getting better and improving our game and improving our conditioning and all the types of things that we can prepare ourselves for a long season. And then it is up to our front office to add the pieces that they think we need to make our team better, more complete."

Washington may need to add one more All-Star to the mix to become a true contender, although it currently has a young supporting cast that is getting better. Otto Porter Jr. and Kelly Oubre Jr.'s development may be the biggest key to whether the Wiz are able to take the next step in 2018-19.

Also, with one of the best backcourts in the NBA, the Wizards figure to be an attractive landing spot for free agents this offseason.
