IPL 2018: Leading Wicket-Takers, Bowling Figures, Run-Scorers, Averages and More

Gianni VerschuerenApr 27, 2018

Trent Boult and Shreyas Iyer were among the standouts for Delhi Daredevils on Friday, and the former powered his way to the top of the wicket-taker standings in a 55-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

Boult took two wickets in the team's second win of the season, bringing his season total to 11. Iyer still has some ways to go to catch up to the leaders in run scoring, but his unbeaten 93 put him in the top 10.

Here's a look at the top batsmen and bowlers by statistics:

Excellent Captaincy Debut for Iyer

Delhi came into Friday's contest on a long losing streak and in dire need of a good result. With new captain Iyer nearly bagging a century, they got just that after KKR won the toss and opted to bowl.

As shared by Cricbuzz, Iyer's knock was exemplary:

He wasn't the only member of the Daredevils who did good work with the bat, as Prithvi Shaw contributed 63 runs to the 219 total from 44 balls. In fact, all Delhi's batsmen held their own, with the exception of Rishabh Pant, who was caught on the first delivery he faced.

Per The Independent's Ed Malyon, Kolkata didn't exactly make things hard on their opponents:

It was a great showing from a Delhi attack that had struggled to generate runs coming into the contest. After Friday's match, both Iyer and Pant rank among the top 10 run-scorers in the IPL.

Boult Leads Wicket-Takers, but Run-Prevention Issues Remain

Boult is the new Purple Cap holder after taking two wickets on Friday, but the New Zealand star was far from perfect. The 28-year-old gave up 44 runs in four overs for an economy rate of 11, the same mark as team-mate Glenn Maxwell. Four of Delhi's bowlers finished with an economy rate in the double figures in their home stadium.

After the match, Boult spoke at length about Iyer's great knock, rather than the team's efforts with the ball:

Delhi still sit in seventh place in the IPL standings and need a great run of results to get into play-off contention. DD play first-placed Chennai Super Kings on Monday, while fourth-placed KKR plays at sixth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.
