Johnny Manziel Calls Baker Mayfield to Browns 'Money Pick' on Instagram
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is on board with the team's new signal-caller.
After Cleveland selected Oklahoma product Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's 2018 NFL draft, Manziel called it a "money pick" on his Instagram feed:
Manziel previously addressed comparisons between the two Heisman Trophy winners leading up to Thursday's draft while appearing on the Pardon My Take podcast (via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal).
"Me and Baker, I feel like have a really cool friendship, and I feel like he's handling [the comparisons] the exact right way," Manziel said. "He's like, 'Listen,' and I'll say the same thing: We're completely different people. We have a similar background. We're both from Texas. We both played Texas high school football, but he's not me, and I'm not him. The way my wires are in my head and the way that I'm built and my makeup is completely different than Baker."
Cleveland used a first-round pick on Manziel in 2014, but it released the Texas A&M product in less than two years due to struggles on and off the field. Manziel posted seven touchdown passes and seven interceptions during 14 games in 2014 and 2015 and was also suspended four games in 2016 after he violated the NFL's substance abuse policy.
The Browns are hoping Mayfield works out better than Manziel did and truly becomes a "money pick."
