As part of the 2018 NFL draft's Day 3 festivities Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers got help from the Star Wars universe and Lucasfilm to announce North Carolina State defensive end Kentavius Street as the No. 128 overall pick in the fourth round.
The NFL sent out the video of R2D2 and Chewbacca assisting in the announcement of Street as the newest member of the 49ers:
San Francisco chose to host its Day 3 draft party at Lucasfilm after the NFL announced that teams could make their picks from Rounds 4 through 6 at special locations.
Once the league gave teams permission to find a place to host a party for the final day of the draft, Lucasfilm seemed like a natural fit for the 49ers. The company has been based in San Francisco since George Lucas founded it in 1971.
There is also a promotional tie-in, with the Ron Howard-directed Solo: A Star Wars Story being released in theaters on May 25.
Not only did Street get to have his dream of making it into the NFL come true Saturday, but he will forever have the distinction of having two of the biggest pop-culture icons in history there to welcome him.
That's not a bad way to start your professional career.
