In a rematch of their WrestleMania 34 bout, Nia Jax defeated Alexa Bliss at WWE Backlash Sunday to retain the Raw Women's Championship in Newark, New Jersey.

Bliss held her own against the champion. She had Jax on the ropes and looked to finish things off with Twisted Bliss. However, Jax caught Bliss as she was coming down and got Bliss into position for the Samoan drop. From there, Jax earned the pinfall:

Jax and Bliss were once portrayed as the best of friends, but things began to change in their relationship prior to WrestleMania.

Alexa's bullying of Nia reached new levels, and everything came to a head on an episode of Raw when she was unsuspectingly caught on camera.

While Jax was in the ring, Bliss and Mickie James were having a conversation backstage that featured Alexa making fun of Nia's intelligence and weight, among other things.

That sent Nia into a rage, and it signaled the end of their friendship with Jax going after the Raw Women's Championship.

Raw general manager Kurt Angle granted Nia a title match at WrestleMania, which placed Alexa's back firmly against the wall considering her size and strength disadvantage.

Bliss tried to get the upper hand by having Mickie accompany her to the ring at WrestleMania, but Nia rag-dolled her and took her out of the equation before the match even got going.

That made it a one-on-one affair, and although Alexa was able to hang in there by targeting Nia's lower body, Jax's power proved too much for her to overcome.

With Nia finally at the top of Raw's women's division, Bliss went to great lengths to avoid run-ins with Jax in the weeks following WrestleMania.

Although Alexa smartly avoided physicality, she didn't shy away from running her mouth and claiming that Jax was a bully. She even made up stories, including one that featured Nia stealing a burrito bowl from a homeless person.

Bliss made continued attempts to get under Nia's skin, and while that only served to fire Jax up even more, it was a worthwhile strategy since Alexa needed to do something in order to level the playing field.

Alexa is one of the most clever and resourceful heels in WWE, and that represented her best chance to pull off a major upset and become a five-time WWE women's champion at Backlash.

While Bliss did all she could to throw Nia off her game, The Irresistible Force prevailed once again and likely sent Alexa to the back of the line in terms of title contenders.

The Raw women's division is stacked with top-end talent, though, and any one of Ember Moon, Sasha Banks, Bayley or even Ronda Rousey could pose a major threat to Jax in the near future.
