R2-D2, Chewbacca, Parrot Headline Announcers of Day 3 2018 NFL Draft Picks
Imagine being an NFL prospect. The day you've waited for finally comes. You're drafted by an NFL team.
Maybe you didn't get to meet NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and shake his hand on national television. But surely there will be a well-respected Hall of Famer or a notable face on stage to make your dream come true.
Well, if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft you Saturday, here's hoping you really like birds.
The NFL announced (via ESPN.com) special guests and attractions for third-day draft picks Monday, with the most notable being the Bucs' use of a parrot named Zsa Zsa from the Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary. Zsa Zsa will deliver Tampa's picks to an announcer in the Pirate Ship in Raymond James Stadium.
Seriously.
If you're about to become a San Francisco 49er, you'll need to be into the whole "may the Force be with you" thing. The 49ers will be using characters and people from the Lucasfilm universe, including Ron Howard, Chewbacca, Stormtroopers and R2-D2.
This is all for pure entertainment, as only the most diehard NFL fans watch every pick come off the board. Oftentimes, picks are made during commercial breaks and are handled with a scant mention on the broadcast.
At least adding a little bit of flair will increase the odds of being shown on TV.
With that said, Zsa Zsa has some big shoes to fill after Rocky the orangutan crushed it for the Indianapolis Colts last year.
