Ryan S. Clark of the News Tribune obtained a copy of the police report, which said officers were called at 1:45 a.m. Sunday to "a report of a 29-year-old man in the street who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest." The first responders on the scene attempted to revive Baker, but he was unresponsive.
Seattle Police Det. Mark Jamieson said Baker's death was under investigation.
A 2016 profile by Sports Illustrated (h/t Clark) detailed Baker's troubled past, which included a prison stint for armed robbery and possession of a firearm.
"I learned life can be taken away from you in two ways: death or prison," Robert Baker said in the profile. "I'm lucky it was prison, because death was around the corner."
