Adrien Broner Makes Racial Remark About Mexicans After Jessie Vargas Fight
Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas was declared a majority draw on Saturday evening, and after the fight, Broner was asked if he'd like to face Jessie Vargas again and responded in a controversial manner.
"Hell yes," he responded, per Nina Mandell of For The Win. "But let's go to my town. I want to fight him where I'm from. There's hella Mexicans that are in here, they kept booing me and sh-t. They want rice and chicken. I want some motherf--ers that want Coney's around me."
Broner wasn't done there, per Myron Medcalf of ESPN:
Suffice to say, Broner's comments didn't sit well with many:
But Broner insisted he was the deserving winner.
"I'm a winner. I knew I was a winner," he said, per Greg Joyce of the New York Post. "Honestly, I beat him 7-5. … I'm clean as a whistle. I ain't got a scratch on me. I look good. I look like I just walked in the ring. He's [messed] up. He's probably gotta spend the rest of the night in the hospital."
Per Joyce, Broner landed 194 of 507 punches, while Vargas landed 203 out of 839 thrown. And Vargas seemed more content with the result.
"I saw myself winning, but I'm not going to argue the judges' decision," he said. "They saw it a draw, I respect it."
