PSG 'Suspicious' Neymar Chasing Exit, Real Madrid Reportedly Won't Start a War

Tom SunderlandApr 20, 2018

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly growing "suspicious" Neymar will attempt to leave the club this summer, although rumoured suitors Real Madrid are only willing to move if the French outfit decides to sell.

Marca journalist J.L. Calderon wrote PSG are wary Neymar may create another "soap opera" by looking to leave, as he did when his £200 million move from Barcelona in 2017 more than doubled the previous transfer record.

It's said PSG worry the player's father and representative, Neymar Sr., is "potentially unsettling" his son and might consider reneging despite reassuring chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi he is considering a future in France.

French journalist Julien Laurens took Neymar's actions during PSG's Ligue 1 title-winning moment, when he was playing poker instead of in attendance, as the latest in a series of questionable moves, via BBC 5 live Sport:

With Neymar seemingly leaning toward an eventual move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, it appears Real are willing to play it cool and not risk upsetting PSG, with whom "they won't start a war."

PSG manager Unai Emery said in the wake of Sunday's title-clinching win over AS Monaco that he last spoke to injured Neymar "two or three weeks ago," per Jonathan Johnson of ESPN FC (h/t Calciomercato.com).

This is perhaps further indication to the disconnect between the two parties in Paris, and former France international Christophe Dugarry jumped on the bandwagon of those opposing Neymar's no-show, via ESPN FC:

Real could have ulterior motives, however, as it's also reported that a buyout clause in Neymar's contract will activate in the summer of 2019, making him available for €222 million to any club willing to meet it.

The Brazilian also spiked speculation after inviting Flamengo youngster Vinicius Junior—who has already agreed to join Real—to his house while he recovers from injury, per AS:

Vinicius Jr. has earned comparisons with Neymar after replicating his rise through Brazil's domestic ranks before sealing a €45 million move to Real, which will become official when he turns 18 in July, per TalkSport.

Goal's Ben Hayward backed Los Blancos as a club able to compete with any in a financial sense:

There's a chance Real's board would be willing to wait for a 2019 buyout clause to kick in and make their move then, but PSG are in a difficult position if Neymar makes clear his intentions to leave Paris this summer.
