2018 NFL Draft Rumors: Patriots Hosting WR Calvin Ridley After Bears Visit
The New England Patriots are reportedly scheduled to host Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley on a predraft visit Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport added Ridley previously met with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday with the 2018 NFL draft now just over one week away.
The Pats may be in the market for a wideout after losing Danny Amendola to the Miami Dolphins in free agency and trading Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams.
As part of the Cooks deal, New England landed the draft's No. 23 overall pick, meaning it has a pair of first-round selections at Nos. 23 and 31.
Landing Ridley at No. 23 may be wishful thinking since he is widely considered the top receiver in the class. However, New England has the ammunition to move up.
Although the Patriots are lacking in top-end wideouts, they have plenty of depth thanks to Julian Edelman's impending return from a torn ACL and Jordan Matthews' signing.
New England also boasts the likes of Chris Hogan, Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett, Malcolm Mitchell and Cordarrelle Patterson in its receiving corps.
While Ridley wasn't part of a high-volume passing attack at Alabama, he put up impressive numbers last season with 63 receptions for 967 yards and five touchdowns. No other Crimson Tide player had more than 17 catches or 264 yards. Ridley is also just two seasons removed from an 89-catch, 1,045-yard, seven-touchdown campaign.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller rated him as the No. 15 overall player and No. 1 wide receiver in the draft as part of his latest big board.
Miller also predicted in his latest mock draft that the Baltimore Ravens will take Ridley with the No. 16 overall pick.
