Joel Embiid Clears Concussion Protocol, Out for Game 2 vs. Heat with Injury
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid cleared concussion protocol Sunday, but he will miss Game 2 of Philly's first-round playoff series against the Miami Heat on Monday, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Embiid is recovering from a fractured orbital bone, and he will likely be forced to wear a protective mask when he returns to action.
The All-Star big man missed the final eight games of the regular season, as well as the Sixers' 130-103 win over the Heat in Game 1 on Saturday.
The Sixers are 9-0 since Embiid went down with the injury, and they have now won 17 games in a row, including Saturday's triumph.
Philly is the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, and it is making its first playoff appearance since 2011-12.
Embiid enjoyed a career-best season in 2017-18, as he appeared in a career-high 63 games and averaged 22.9 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 blocks.
Veteran Amir Johnson started Game 1 in Embiid's place and finished with two points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Philadelphia will host Miami on Monday at 8 p.m. ET for Game 2 of the series.
