Mo Bamba Working Out, Watching Film with Joel Embiid Before 2018 NBA Draft
Former Texas center Mo Bamba has a new mentor, and his name is Joel Embiid.
According to The Ringer's John Gonzalez, Bamba was at Wells Fargo Center for Game 1 of the Philadelphia 76ers' first-round series with the Miami Heat on Saturday and confirmed he's in the City of Brotherly Love to work out and watch film with Embiid between games.
Bamba also told Gonzalez Embiid is "giving me the cheat codes."
The Process has been offering Bamba pointers from afar for months and even reached out to him over text to provide words of encouragement after the freshman erupted for 22 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocks against Embiid's Kansas Jayhawks in December.
"[Embiid] told me to demand the ball more," Bamba told CBSSports.com's Reid Forgrave. "He said he knows how little space you have in college, catching the ball and having everyone sink onto you, so you have to make moves quicker."
Embiid, meanwhile, offered a glowing scouting report of the 19-year-old.
"He's long and extremely athletic, kind of reminds me of Nerlens Noel," Embiid said, per Forgrave. "He's a great defender, athletic, a great shot-blocker—but he can be so much more. I remember myself at Kansas. I was just a shot-blocker. I showed a couple flashes of post moves, a bit of a jumper, but that's all I showed. I feel he has a lot more than that."
Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman has Bamba ranked No. 7 among all draft-eligible prospects on his latest big board. The draft will take place June 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
