5-Star WR Frank Ladson Jr., 4-Star QB Taisun Phommachanh Commit to Clemson
The Clemson Tigers secured two major commitments Saturday. Wide receiver Frank Ladson Jr. and quarterback Taisun Phommachanh both announced that they will play for the reigning ACC champions.
Ladson made it official on Twitter:
Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports was the first to report Phommachanh's decision.
According to 247Sports, Ladson is a 5-star recruit who ranks as the No. 14 overall player and No. 3 wideout in his class, while Phommachanh is a 4-star prospect who is rated as the No. 114 overall player and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback.
Ladson is a standout at South Dade High School in Miami who received scholarship offers from several top-flight schools.
According to 247Sports, Ladson chose Clemson over Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Miami, among others.
Phommachanh plays at Avon Old Farms High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and he is coming off a dominant 2017 season that saw him throw for 25 touchdowns and rush for 17 scores, while throwing just one interception, per 247Sports.
He was also a popular target among major schools. 247Sports listed Florida State, Penn State and South Carolina as some of the programs that made a significant push for him.
Phommachanh is the latest dual-threat quarterback to choose Clemson, following in the footsteps of Deshaun Watson and current Clemson starter Kelly Bryant.
Both Ladson and Phommachanh are set to join the Tigers for the 2019 season.
