Grand National 2018: Tiger Roll Wins Photo Finish over Pleasant Company

Adam WellsApr 14, 2018

Tiger Roll triumphed came out on top of the 38-horse field on Saturday at Aintree Racecourse to win the 2018 Grand National on Saturday.

It was a photo finish at the end between Tiger Roll and Pleasant Company, with the former crossing the finish line first by a nose.

In addition to the drama at the very top of the race, there was another photo finish to determine the third- and fourth-place results. Bless The Wings was determined to have finished just ahead of Anibale Fly.

Here is how the top six finished from Liverpool, England:

2018 Grand National Results and Payouts, via SportingLife.com:

First: Tiger Roll (£500,000)

Second: Pleasant Company (£200,000)

Third: Bless The Wings (£100,000)

Fourth: Anibale Fly (£65,000)

Fifth: Milansbar (£40,000)

Sixth: Road To Riches (£30,000)

Tiger Roll looked to be in control coming down the stretch, but Pleasant Company and jockey David Mullins put together an incredible late surge that would've yielded a different result if there were two or three more steps before the finish line.

ITV captured the final leg of the race:

Tiger Roll is on quite the hot streak. He won the National Hunt Chase last year and the Cross Country Chase last month.

"I've won this race a thousand times in my head," jockey Davy Russell said after the win, per Horse Racing Nation. "I hope everyone who has supported me along the way can enjoy this."

Coming in fifth place on Milansbar, Bryony Frost had an excellent showing in her first-ever ride at the Grand National. She had nothing but praise for her horse after the race was over.

"He was incredible wasn't he," Frost said, per At The Races. "He was fifth and that's an amazing feat”

Further down the leaderboard, Total Recall started the day as the favorite with 7-1 odds. He was never a major factor in the race, and jockey Paul Townend pulled him up before he could finish.

In all, 12 were able to cross the finish line.

Per Racing Tips & News, Saint Are had to be examined on the track before making it back to the stables. He was the only horse who didn't immediately make it back following the race.
