Kevin Love: LeBron James' Free-Agency Decision Could Impact Cavs' Playoff Run

Adam WellsApr 13, 2018

LeBron James' uncertain future with the Cleveland Cavaliers could play a role in the team's playoff run this season, according to teammate Kevin Love.

Speaking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Love acknowledged that James' decision this summer has the potential to hang over the entire team as they chase another NBA championship.

"It definitely could. But only one person knows what he's thinking and that's 'Bron. I think at the end of the day, we would love to have a long run, but that's going to be up to not only him but all of us. And you know I don't mean only the players, but the coaching staff and everybody. I mean, really getting on board and, you know, sticking to our schemes and playing great basketball."

James holds a $35.6 million player option for the 2018-19 season as part of the three-year deal he signed with the Cavs two years ago, per Spotrac

In December, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst reported James' desire to receive a max contract "hasn't changed."

Per Hoops Rumors, James can sign a max contract with the Cavs worth up to $205 million. Other teams can only offer the four-time NBA MVP a four-year deal worth $152 million.

James is coming off one of his best seasons. The 15-year veteran appeared in all 82 games for the first time in his career and averaged a career-high 9.1 assists per game.
