Manny Pacquiao, Trainer Freddie Roach Officially Part Ways After 15 Years

The partnership between Manny Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach has come to an end after 15 years. 

In a statement to Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix on Friday, Roach confirmed Pacquiao chose to use a different trainer as he continues his boxing career:     

The move has been suspected for some time after Pacquiao's press release announcing his upcoming fight with Lucas Matthysse didn't include Roach's name, per ESPN.com's Sid Ventura. 

Roach told Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times in February that he tried to get in contact with Pacquiao multiple times. 

"I usually leave him alone until I hear from him, but I've called him five times and haven't heard back," he said. "Maybe he changed his number."

Pacquiao has lost four of his last nine fights, including a unanimous-decision defeat against Jeff Horn last July at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. The 39-year-old owns a 59-7-2 career record and has held world titles in eight different weight classes. 

He will face Matthysse on July 15 (July 14 in the USA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
