Giants Draft Rumors: Dave Gettleman, Coaches Disagree on Josh Allen, Sam Darnold
New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman and members of the team's coaching staff are reportedly split on their favorite signal-caller in this year's draft.
According to The MMQB's Albert Breer, Gettleman "really likes" former USC quarterback Sam Darnold. Conversely, the coaching staff prefers former Wyoming gunslinger Josh Allen.
Breer added, "everyone there likes Penn State running back Saquon Barkley."
The buzz comes days after an NFL talent evaluator told NJ.com's Matt Lombardo that Darnold appears to be the favorite to come off the board at No. 2 overall if the Cleveland Browns passed on him at the top of the draft.
"If [Sam] Darnold is available, they're taking Darnold," the evaluator said. "They don't like [Josh] Rosen."
The evaluator also didn't mention Allen when discussing the Giants' top targets. Barkley, though, was present on the list.
"Their top three choices are Darnold, Saquon Barkley, and Bradley Chubb," he told Lombardo. "They are debating Barkley vs. Chubb, because they need an edge rusher but the scouts love Barkley."
In his latest mock draft, Bleacher Report NFL draft expert Matt Miller had Darnold off the board to the Browns at No. 1 and Chubb to the Giants at No. 2.
