Ohio State Spring Game 2018: Date, Start Time, TV Schedule, Live Stream and More

Chris RolingApr 13, 2018

Inclement weather has managed to steal the attention away from Urban Meyer's team ahead of the 2018 Ohio State spring game.

Meyer's Buckeyes had initially planned to have a double-header event alongside the program's lacrosse team for fans, and the school announced all 78,000 available tickets were accounted for—normally the number would hit six figures if Ohio Stadium wasn't undergoing renovations.

Granted, the number could be even smaller if bad weather rolls in and impacts a to-be-decided start time.

Here's a look at the event, including the drama surrounding the start time and the football team itself.

Meyer himself revealed the kickoff time will have a change:

Other programs such as Michigan have had to cancel spring games due to poor conditions, while the lacrosse team rerouted its game to Friday night.

The Buckeyes have made a point to have a decision ready for fans by Friday, as noted by Ohio State athletics communications representative Jerry Emig:

From a sheer football standpoint, the battle to replace J.T. Barrett has consumed headlines surrounding the Buckeyes. That is natural, considering they lost a quarterback who had been around since 2012 and in 2017 threw for 35 touchdowns against nine interceptions with another 12 scores as a rusher.

The trio of Dwayne Haskins, Joe Burrow and Tate Martell continue to battle it out for the starting gig, though no one player has yet to set themselves apart from the pack.

"All three are close," Meyer said, according to Eleven Warriors' Dan Hope. "There are times that you wish you'd have one guy separate, but then, it's certainly not because of poor performance, it's because of all three want the job. So, some decisions are going to have to be made. But right now, I can't name a one. I can't even name a three."

Haskins at least has last year going for him, where he threw for four touchdowns over three games and got in for seven attempts on the road against Michigan in an eventual win.

No matter who emerges the winner, the supporting cast looks good. Running back J.K. Dobbins returns after barrelling to 1,403 yards and seven touchdowns on a 7.2 per-carry average a year ago, as does 10-touchdown man Mike Weber. The offensive line looks good as well up front, even after losing Billy Price.

Most teams would worry about the defensive side of the ball after losing so many veteran defensive lineman—but most teams don't have Nick Bosa on their roster. And like the other members of the Bosa family, he's ready to assume a leadership role regardless of expectations.

ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg captured his thoughts: "I'm confident in what I'm doing so I don't feel that much pressure. Maybe if I wasn't doing well with my career, I might feel pressure, but I think I'm doing fine. I just live my life like a normal person."

Bosa will be one of the biggest names in attendance when Meyer splits his players into Scarlet and Gray teams, an innovative approach to a game featuring four 10-minute quarters. There, Bosa will lead an upstart line against quarterbacks looking to win the starting job in front of an unknown number of fans underneath iffy weather, a fitting bit of drama and adversity for a program like Ohio State.
