2018 NFL Draft Rumors: Sam Darnold to Visit with Jets Amid Giants Interest
USC quarterback Sam Darnold reportedly will meet with the New York Jets this week, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.
Per that report: "[Darnold] wasn't on the schedule a couple [of] weeks back but is now. Darnold's also visiting the Giants this week."
Unsurprisingly, Darnold is making the rounds. He also reportedly met with the Buffalo Bills on Friday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, and met with the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos earlier in April.
Suffice to say, there's a strong chance Darnold is off the board within the top five picks (1. Browns, 2. Giants, 3. Jets, 4. Browns, 5. Broncos). And if the pick comes down to Darnold and Josh Rosen for the Giants, they will reportedly go with the former.
"If [Sam] Darnold is available, they're taking Darnold," an NFL talent evaluator told Matt Lombardo of NJ.com on Monday. "They don't like [Josh] Rosen."
The executive added: "Their top three choices are Darnold, Saquon Barkley and Bradley Chubb. They are debating Barkley vs. Chubb because they need an edge-rusher, but the scouts love Barkley."
That will leave the Jets to decide between whomever the top quarterback on the board is and Chubb or Barkley. But given the team's obvious hole at QB, it's hard to imagine the Jets won't pull the trigger on either Darnold, Rosen, Baker Mayfield or Josh Allen at No. 3.
The draft is also loaded with quarterback-needy teams, and a squad like the Bills could try to move into the top five.
