King Juan Carlos Called Florentino Perez to Praise Cristiano Ronaldo's Juve Goal
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed the former King of Spain, Juan Carlos, called him to congratulate Cristiano Ronaldo following his breathtaking goal against Juventus.
Ronaldo scored twice as Madrid hammered the Italian champions in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie, with his second goal a stunning overhead kick.
It's a goal that captured the imagination of the football world and even the royals were impressed with Ronaldo's piece of brilliance, according to Perez.

"Juan Carlos called me to congratulate Cristiano," he said to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Robin Bairner of Goal). "His goal against Juventus was one of the most beautiful in football history, a wonderful goal by the best player in the world."

Even the Juventus supporters appreciated the strike, as Ronaldo's effort in Turin was roundly applauded by the home fans. "What happened in Turin was very exciting and shows the greatness of Juventus as well as their fans." continued Perez.
Not only did the goal amaze supporters, for Madrid it was absolutely crucial, as it put them in total control of the tie. Los Blancos are chasing what would be an unprecedented third Champions League win in succession and will be confident of getting the job done in the second leg on Wednesday.
As we can see below, Ronaldo is renowned for making a difference in the latter stages of this competition:
The campaign started slowly for the 33-year-old and his team. Earlier in the year there were suggestions that the forward had begun to lose his mercurial touch in front of goal, as Madrid rapidly lost ground to Barcelona in the race for La Liga.
Yet since the turn of the year Ronaldo has been exceptional and in the Champions League in particular he's made a massive difference to Madrid.

In the previous round against a dangerous Paris Saint-Germain side he was on the scoresheet twice over the course of the two legs. It appears as though his magic at Juventus has decided the quarter-final tie, too.
He's on quite a run of goalscoring across the course of the last two competitions, as Eurosport UK noted:
It's no shock to see Ronaldo's goal has caught the attention of Juan Carlos and that the former King of Spain wanted to pass on his best wishes. As noted by the club's official website, the 80-year-old visited the players in the changing room after they beat Juventus to win the trophy last May.
Juan Carlos reigned as the King of Spain from 1975 before abdicating the position in 2014.
