Jurgen Klopp Hopeful Mohamed Salah Will Be Fit to Face Manchester City

Christopher SimpsonApr 9, 2018

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is hopeful he will be able to call on Mohamed Salah for the second leg of the Reds' UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

Salah was forced off in the 52nd minute of the first leg at Anfield and missed Saturday's 0-0 draw with Everton, while Andrew Robertson and Alberto Moreno also sat out with injuries.

Per James Carroll for the Reds' official website, Klopp said:

"No real clue in the moment because we have to wait a little bit. You can imagine, in this short period between games, it is quite difficult so I have to wait each minute I can and that's what I'll do. There's nothing new in the moment, we will see.

"We will see in five hours until we train and we'll know who is involved in that. I don't know in the moment 100 per cent, but I am quite hopeful we will have a bigger squad than we had at Everton. ...

"With Mo, Robbo and Alberto, we have to wait a little bit but of course [we have] big hope they will be back."

BBC Sport's Simon Stone anticipates the forward will be fit to feature:

Salah scored and assisted in the first leg to help Liverpool earn a 3-0 win over City at Anfield, and they'll be looking to defend that lead on Tuesday.

Attack may prove the best form of defence, though, as a single away goal from the Reds will require the Sky Blues to score five.

While Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are more than capable of finding the net themselves—they've found the net 39 times between them this season—Salah has scored one short of that tally on his own, so they're a much bigger threat with him in the side.

To maximise their chances of progressing, he needs to be on the pitch.
