Saturday Recap
Mumbai Indians endured a tough start as Evin Lewis was out for a duck on his IPL debut. Rohit Sharma was also dismissed cheaply, leaving the hosts at 20 for two.
Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle said Lewis may have been overawed by the occasion:
Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan helped Mumbai Indians back on track along with Krunal and Hardik Pandya. Krunal hit 41 off 22 balls, and the team's official Twitter account highlighted their contribution:
Chennai Super Kings were left to chase 166 and started strongly with Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson having no trouble finding the boundaries.
However, Mumbai Indians introduced Mayank Markande, and he began to wreak havoc. The debutant accounted for Rayudu and then dismissed MS Dhoni for just five.
Cricbuzz highlighted Markande's contribution:
The hosts looked to be heading for a convincing win until Bravo took charge of proceedings. He hit two sixes in the 18th inning and three in the 19th to secure his half-century.
Jasprit Bumrah eventually removed Bravo, and Super Kings were left needing seven off the final over. Kedar Jadhav returned, despite picking up a hamstring problem earlier, to face Mustafizur Rahman.
Jadhav hit a six on the fourth ball and followed it up with a four on the fifth to secure victory and complete a thrilling win. He said after the game he could not run, per ESPNcricinfo:
It was a remarkable start to the competition, and there should be more excitement on Sunday as Kings XI Punjab take on Delhi Daredevils while Kolkata Knight Riders face Royal Challengers Bangalore.
