NASCAR at Texas 2018: Start Time, Ticket Info, Lineup, TV Schedule and More

Tom SunderlandApr 7, 2018

The 2018 O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 will resume this year's NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday, where Kurt Busch is in the frame for victory after claiming pole position in qualifying.

Younger brother Kyle Busch leads the series standings after managing four podium-place finishes in his last four races, but he starts eighth on the grid after Saturday's qualifying was cut short due to weather.

Texas will be the seventh race of this year's NASCAR Cup Series and presents the top table contenders with a chance to get an early win this season on the board.

Kurt Busch Blazing in Texas

Kurt Busch was at his best early on during Saturday's qualifying runs and ensured he got a good mark on the board before weather—as it has proved in the past it can in Texas—put brakes on the session.

Racing writer Jeff Gluck confirmed lightning put an early stop on qualifying, but that didn't prevent Stewart-Haas Racing from taking monopoly over the pole places:

The elder Busch brother has finished among the top 10 in his last two runs at the Texas 500, although he's struggled to come close to beating the fourth-place finish he managed in his 2001 debut at this track.

The driver was keen to celebrate, too, after ending a year-long wait between poles. A top qualifying speed of 197.368 miles per hour, given the weather, suggests he means business come Sunday:

The chances are looking bright for Stewart-Haas overall, too, while the top four qualifiers on the grid all came from Ford runners.

Kevin Harvick has won more Cup Series races than any other driver in NASCAR this year (three), and his team boasted about just how he's put together such a strong run of form recently:

Consistency will be the key for No. 4, though, as he now looks to cut a more imposing frame on the NASCAR leaderboard, having also finished outside the top 30 on two occasions this term.

One past winner who will be particularly motivated to impress in Texas is defending O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 champion Jimmie Johnson, who didn't quite get the qualifying run he wanted in a shortened session, per Team Lowe's Racing:

Johnson starts ninth on the grid as he looks to become not only the first driver to win back-to-back races at this track, but also the first driver to win the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 three times in their career.

He's one of five drivers who has won here on two occasions (2015, 2017), but he can clinch a historic third victory in four years if the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion can beat the field on Sunday.
