Kevin Hogan Traded to Redskins; Browns Upgrade 6th-Round 2018 NFL Draft Pick

Adam WellsApr 6, 2018

The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Kevin Hogan and a 2018 sixth-round pick (No. 205 overall) to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round draft pick (No. 188 overall) on Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Hogan in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. The team released him prior to the start of the season, and he signed with Cleveland's practice squad. The Stanford product appeared in eight games for the Browns over the past two seasons, making his only career start last year in a Week 6 loss to the Houston Texans

With the Browns adding quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton this offseason, Hogan's place on the depth chart appeared tenuous.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Hogan requested and received permission to seek a trade. His overall numbers don't stand out with four touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he has shown flashes of potential for a team to develop.

Hogan came off the bench against the New York Jets in Week 5 last season, going 16-of-19 for 194 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in a 17-14 defeat.

At 25 years old, Hogan is still in the developmental stages of his NFL career and should slot in behind Alex Smith and Colt McCoy on Washington's depth chart.
