Masters 2018 Leaderboard: Latest Scores and Standings from Thursday at Augusta

David McCrackenApr 5, 2018

This year's field of golfers could make the Masters one of the more exciting and unpredictable weekends of golf that we've seen in quite some time, especially with the return of a seemingly healthy Tiger Woods—a four-time winner of this event.

Woods, along with a handful of other golfers, has already begun his day on the course, and to see how they did, you can check out Bleacher Report's live blog to catch up on all the action you might have missed along with real-time updates as the day progresses.

When it comes to the Masters, not many other golfers have had the same type of success as this Northern Irishman, despite not having won the competition.

Even when one considers his historic collapse back in 2011, it's hard to deny McIlory's success on this course. In the past four years, McIlory has finished in the top 10 in each tournament. With a tee time of 1:38 p.m., ET on Thursday, McIlory will have had a good look at how the course is reacting to the opening round of play as he can observe how some of his competitors are faring thus far.

But even with a later start date on the first day of play, McIlory might not need much dress rehearsal to get used to the course at Augusta. After all, he's put in the proper preparation coming into this event to ensure another strong performance.

Whether or not all those rounds of gold coming into this week will do him any good, it can't hurt to be over-prepared on a trick course like this one. And gifted with a powerful drive, McIlory can play himself out of any jam he might get himself into over this weekend.

Age is just a number. And when it comes to Phil Mickelson, the 47-year-old is playing the best golf he's played in quite some time.

Teeing off later on Thursday, Mickelson is paired alongside Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar, but that won't matter with the form that Mickelson's in, coming into this year's Masters after rattling off six-straight top 25 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a first-place finish at the World Golf Championships event in Mexico last month.

Mickelson, 47, can't be overlooked this year even with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, McIlory and Woods in the picture.

The former five-time major winner will look to build off a strong start in 2018 with yet another top 25 finish at Augusta. And who knows, he just might win it all if he's within striking distance come Sunday.
