The Rock Delivered Inspirational 'Genius Talk' to Lakers Before 9-Point Win
The Los Angeles Lakers have 33 wins on the season, and one of them may have been thanks to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
In a profile of Johnson, Josh Eells of Rolling Stone detailed a speech given to the Lakers as part of the "Genius Talk" series created by general manager Rob Pelinka featuring celebrities and businessmen not related to basketball.
As Eells described it, The Rock provided "a heartfelt, extemporaneous speech cataloging his lifetime of failures."
"You guys are on the come-up," he said in the speech. "You're on the rise. But at some point, you gotta be f--king tired of not being number one. You gotta play angry. I'm cool and calm when I step on a set. But when it comes to business and when it comes to executing"—he raps his fist against the wall—"every day my back is up against this motherf--ker. And when my back is against this motherf--ker"—he raps again—"I don't give a f--k who's in front of me. I won't stop."
The Lakers ended up winning the game by nine.
Although the rest of the year hasn't exactly gone as planned with the team missing the playoffs once again, this appeared to at least be a highlight of the 2017-18 season.
