Why the Stars can pay on the NHL lines

Dallas has no chance of making the postseason but will be catching San Jose in a somewhat favorable spot after the Sharks lost their chance at the Pacific Division title with a defeat on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.

The Stars have won three of the past four meetings, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, going 6-3 in the series dating back to 2015. They did lose the previous meeting 5-2 at San Jose on February 18 but have not dropped consecutive games in the series in three seasons.

Why the Sharks can pay on the NHL lines

San Jose should be able to get over the Vegas hangover quickly, especially with the Los Angeles Kings moving within two points of second place in the Pacific Division standings. Having a home-ice edge in a potential first-round playoff series versus Los Angeles may be the difference even though both play well on the road.

While the Sharks are riding a three-game skid, two of the three losses came in overtime, and they had won eight in a row prior to that to put themselves in position to make a late-season run at the division title.

Smart betting pick

Dallas is dialed out at this point of the season, with goaltender Ben Bishop still injured and the team's postseason chances finished. San Jose is in a much different situation and has been competitive lately, even in losses.

At the same time the Sharks were winning eight consecutive games, the Stars were losing eight straight, so these teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum heading into this matchup. San Jose will pay off on the NHL betting lines in this one.

NHL betting trends

Dallas is 2-9 in its last 11 games.

Dallas is 0-5 in its last five games on the road.

San Jose is 8-3 in its last 11 games.
