PSG Reportedly Take Lead in Malcom Race Ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham

Tom SunderlandApr 3, 2018

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly the new front-runners to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom this summer, owing to a connection between his agency and the French club's sporting director, Antero Henrique.

Malcom is represented by Elenko Sports, an agency that has a multitude of other Brazilian clients and developed ties with Henrique during his successful spell at Porto, per France Football (h/t Calciomercato.com).

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were linked in January as two of the top contenders to sign Malcom, but Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the South American, who is valued at €50 million (£43.8 million).

Malcom looks likely to be on the move this summer as long as some interest is made concrete, and Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet said after the January transfer window that he predicted an eventual departure, per Goal:

Henrique's links enhance PSG's chances of signing the speedster, but the Ligue 1 leaders already have an edge in offering Malcom a short-distance move to a destination of much higher prestige and pedigree.

However, PSG already have an assortment of wide talent in Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler and Kylian Mbappe when he's fielded there, raising the question as to whether Malcom would be a wise investment.

One departure that could leave an opening is Neymar, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, although he said this week he's "calm" amid the speculation, per Calciomercato.

Goal's Ben Hayward also doubted rumours Neymar will leave the Parc des Princes after a single season:

Bayern makes sense as a destination for Malcom, with Arjen Robben, 34, and Franck Ribery, 35 this month, approaching the ends of their time at the Allianz Arena.

What's more, Die Roten fit Malcom's vision of joining a big club and making the step up in surroundings he seeks, per Goal's Ronan Murphy:

The Brazilian recently ended a goal drought dating back more than two months when he netted in Bordeaux's 2-1 loss to Guingamp on Sunday, a disappointing dip after he scored seven in 16 games up to the end of the winter transfer window.

The wide man may need to recapture some of his earlier form before drawing serious interest from PSG, who could capitalise on Henrique's connections to chase the deal should they make an offer.
