Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors: Giants WR Wants Contract Averaging $18M Per Year

Scott PolacekApr 2, 2018

Trading for and keeping wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on the roster will reportedly come at a significant cost.

Peter King of The MMQB reported the Los Angeles Rams "are definitely interested" in acquiring Beckham from the New York Giants but noted it would cost them "likely two first-round picks plus a contract averaging at least $18 million a year."

According to Spotrac, the fifth-year option on Beckham's contract for the 2018 campaign is worth nearly $8.5 million.

The status of the LSU product's contract is notable after Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported he "will not set foot on a field without a new contract extension" whether it is for the Giants or any other team in the league.

While Beckham's talent is clear, King suggested New York could ultimately trade him if it decides the possibility of an extended holdout in coach Pat Shurmur's first offseason with the team isn't worth the trouble.

He mentioned Los Angeles as a potential target, and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports listed the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts as "contenders" alongside the Rams if the Giants were to trade him this offseason.

Whichever team features Beckham in its offense next season will have one of the best receivers in the league who made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. He had more than 1,300 receiving yards and at least 10 touchdown catches in all three years.

He is also just 25 years old and figures to have plenty of productive seasons ahead of him even though he played just four games in 2017 due to an ankle injury.
