3rd-Grader Anna Christian Beeker Plays for HS Boys Varsity Golf Team
Anna Christian Beeker, a nine-year-old third-grader, is playing on the high school varsity golfing team at Tuscaloosa Academy in Alabama, according to Joey Chandler of TuscaloosaNews.com.
Per that report, she's "believed to be the youngest athlete ever to play varsity high school athletics in state history and one of the youngest ever in the country." The Alabama Independent School Association reportedly doesn't have an age limit on when athletes can compete at the varsity level, allowing Beeker to compete with the Tuscaloosa Academy boys.
"She is playing on the level of an average high school golfer at nine years old with what she is shooting, and for her age that is incredible," Tom Farrell, an assistant golf professional at Indian Hills Country Club, told Chandler.
"From 150 yards in, that is where she excels. Her short game is so good," Tuscaloosa Academy coach Scott Taylor added. "She is at a disadvantage from the ability to hit off the tee from a certain distance, but you get her with anyone else within 100 yards and she's as good as any of them."
