Juventus Transfer News: PSG to Chase Alex Sandro in Latest Summer Rumours

Matt JonesMar 31, 2018

Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly make a move to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro in the summer.

Speaking to Rai Sport, journalist Claudia Garcia provided details on some of the Ligue 1 leaders' transfer targets and said signing the Brazil left-back will be among their top priorities (h/t Football Italia).

"If PSG still don't have clear ideas on their coach, they do on players," Garcia said. "They are looking for a left-back, a centre-back and maybe a forward to replace [Edinson] Cavani if he leaves. In terms of the left-back, the priority at the moment is definitely Alex Sandro. PSG will go strongly, strongly for Alex Sandro in June."

Sandro has been linked with an exit from the Italian champions for a while, with Chelsea keen on him during the previous transfer window, per the Mirror (h/t ESPN FC).

As Amadi Tidiane of World Soccer Talk noted, there would some frustration among Blues supporters if Sandro did make the switch to Paris:

Per Football Italia, in addition to Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United are monitoring developments involving the defender.

Juventus secured Sandro's signature in 2015, and he's established himself as one of the best left-backs in football during his time in Turin.

Sandro is one of the best left-backs around.

Sandro is a major presence both defensively and in the final third. He is tenacious and industrious in his work, providing excellent protection to Giorgio Chiellini on the left side of the defence.

For a side like PSG, though, who will spend the vast majority of the game pushing forward and trying to get crosses into the box, attacking prowess is important. Sandro offers balance, width and penetration when Juventus pin their opponents back.

Per WhoScored.com, after a challenging start to the season, he's been excellent lately:

There aren't many areas of this star-studded PSG squad that can be upgraded given the investment in the team in recent seasons, although left-back has been a concern.

Behind regular starter Layvin Kurzawa, there aren't too many options for manager Unai Emery to call upon. Yuri Berchiche has done well in patches, while Thomas Meunier, who can do a job there if needed, is more comfortable on the right flank.

In addition, Bleacher Report's Gianni Verschueren suggested PSG should seek to improve on Kurzawa:

Given he's one of the best players in his position in football, it would take a massive amount of money to convince Juventus to sell Sandro. After all, they don't have a natural replacement for him in their squad.

Having won two league titles with the Bianconeri, the prospect of a new challenge at a club on the rise may appeal to Sandro, especially as he would surely be given a lucrative deal should he make a switch.
