Report: GGG vs. Canelo Ticket Refunds Offered Due to Possibility of Cancellation

Mike ChiariMar 29, 2018

MGM Resorts International is reportedly set to offer full refunds to those who bought tickets for the May 5 fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

According to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael, an MGM Resorts International spokesman released the following statement Wednesday: "If a fan requests a refund for the Canelo-GGG 2 fight they may receive one, in full, at the original point of purchase."

The fight is in jeopardy of being canceled due to Alvarez twice testing positive for performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol in February.

MGM Resorts International owns T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which is where the bout is scheduled to take place.

Alvarez said the positive test was the result of eating contaminated meat in Mexico.

Last week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission temporarily suspended Canelo. On April 10, Alvarez will plead his case at a commission hearing, where it will be decided whether the May 5 fight will take place.

The scheduled fight is a rematch after Canelo and GGG fought to a draw in September.

That marked the first blemish of any kind on Golovkin's record, as he entered the bout with a perfect 37-0 mark.

Alvarez, who is 49-1-2, has only lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. over the course of his career.

Golovkin said that he would still fight Canelo despite the positive test, per Rafael, but he rejected Alvarez's contaminated meat explanation and accused him of cheating.
