Report: Neymar Could Return from Foot Injury 'For PSG by the End of April'

Rory MarsdenMar 29, 2018

Neymar could return to fitness for Paris Saint-Germain by the end of April, less than two months after undergoing surgery on his injured right foot.

According to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, the 26-year-old could return for PSG's clash against Amiens on May 6, their third-to-last game of the 2017-18 Ligue 1 season (via ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson):

The Brazil international fractured his fifth metatarsal during PSG's 3-0 league victory over Olympique de Marseille on Feb. 25.

Per Sky Sports, he consequently had surgery and was expected to be out of action for three months, a prognosis that would have seen him return just weeks before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

However, it seems he is recovering quicker than expected. The news will come as a big boost for PSG, but perhaps more significantly for his national team.

Although Neymar has been PSG's star man this season—he has returned 19 goals and 13 assists in Ligue 1—their 17-point lead at the head of the French top flight means Unai Emery's side should have more than enough to claim the title without his involvement.

Brazil, on the other hand, will surely be better equipped to challenge for the World Cup with a fit Neymar in the side.

The Selecao did prove with recent friendly victories over Russia and Germany that they are a formidable outfit even without their star player.

But Neymar's speedy return will still be welcomed by Brazil manager Tite, especially as he could have a few PSG fixtures in which to regain match sharpness before he joins up with his international team-mates.
