Jurgen Klopp and Bayern Munich Would Be a 'Good Fit,' Says Liverpool Boss' Agent

Christopher SimpsonMar 28, 2018

Jurgen Klopp's agent believes the Liverpool boss would be well-suited to taking over at Bayern Munich, but the German looks set to remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Klopp's representative Marc Kosicke told German newspaper Sport1 (h/t ESPN).

"Jurgen isn't too big for Bayern Munich and Bayern Munich isn't too big for him. He definitely could do a very good job there.

"Bayern and Klopp would be a good fit, but it isn't something that is an option at the moment.

"Coaching one of the big clubs in Europe isn't something that is unattractive, but everything has to suit.

"Yes, Bayern are looking for a coach in the summer, but Jurgen has a long contract. At the moment, Jurgen isn't thinking about coaching another club than the Reds."

Kosicke noted Klopp's close relationship with Bayern president Uli Hoeness has frequently made Bayern a possibility for the coach, but a move has never materialised at the right time.

According to former footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft, Munich harboured ambitions of recruiting Klopp this summer:

Jupp Heynckes came out of retirement to take over the club for a fourth spell after Carlo Ancelotti was relieved of his duties early in the season, but the German is only contracted until the end of the campaign, and if he does not stay on, the Bavarian outfit will be in the market for a new manager.

Kristian Walsh of the Liverpool Echo is relaxed about the talk from Klopp's agent, though:

Kosicke reiterated his client is not set to leave Liverpool any time soon and may never take over at the Allianz Arena.

"Jurgen can definitely end his coaching career without having coached Bayern Munich," he added. "He has a contract until 2022. And I believe he isn't finished [at Liverpool] yet. But there are always several factors involved."

Though Klopp's commitment to the Reds is clear, it's understandable Bayern might want him to take over this summer or further down the line.

He won back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012—the last time a side other than Bayern won the league—and took them to the UEFA Champions League final in 2013, where they lost to Bayern.

While he is yet to win any silverware with Liverpool, his transformation of the side has been impressive. Football writer Joel Rabinowitz noted their improvement after the Reds beat Newcastle United 2-0 at the start of the month:

The speed and chemistry on display in the Reds' attacking play is something to behold, and Liverpool have produced 206 goals in Klopp's 99 Premier League games in charge.

Their defending has often attracted attention for the wrong reasons, but they have been on an upward trajectory in that regard, per football writer Andrew Beasley:

Klopp will soon need to bring in trophies to ensure his stint at Anfield is truly successful, but there's a lot to be said for consistently producing thrilling football and getting the club back into the Champions League, a competition they'd only been in once since 2009.

Silverware is almost a guarantee at Bayern given their superiority over the rest of the Bundesliga. Should Klopp ever take charge there, he'll likely to be able to deliver success in style.
