Hue Jackson on Browns Picking QB in 2018 NFL Draft: 'I Think the Guy's in There'

Kyle NewportMar 27, 2018

The Cleveland Browns—as evidenced by the infamous QB jersey—have not had much success with quarterbacks since returning to the NFL, but coach Hue Jackson thinks this could be the year that finally puts the franchise's past failures behind it.

According to Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com, Jackson believes the Browns will leave the draft with a franchise quarterback:"I think the guy’s in there. I really do."

Cleveland owns the Nos. 1 and 4 overall picks in April's draft.

In less than two weeks since the new league year began, the Browns have already addressed the position for 2018. They acquired Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills, traded last year's second-round pick DeShone Kizer to the Green Bay Packers, and according to agent Mike McCartney, signed Drew Stanton.

Adding veterans means the team doesn't have to rush a rookie quarterback to start Week 1 the way it did with Kizer. It will give the potential future face of the franchise a chance to learn from experienced players rather than having to learn on the fly out on the field.

Who that draft pick will be is anyone's guess. Former USC star Sam Darnold is widely viewed as the top quarterback of this draft class, with Josh Rosen (UCLA) and Josh Allen (Wyoming) not far behind. Any of those quarterbacks could be taken No. 1 overall, or the Browns could take the best player available with the first pick and see which passers are available at No. 4.

Regardless, Jackson has faith that Cleveland will no longer be home to a quarterback graveyard after this year's draft.
