Barcelona Transfer News: Manchester United's Luke Shaw Linked in Latest Rumours

Rob BlanchetteMar 26, 2018

Barcelona could launch a surprise swoop for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, as the England international continues to be overlooked at Old Trafford.

James Nursey of the Mirror reported the Blaugrana are searching for a new left-back and believe the former Southampton star could offer good competition to Jordi Alba at the Camp Nou.

According to Nursey, France international Lucas Digne, who is the current deputy for Alba, could leave the club in search of the first-team football on a regular basis. The player arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, but Alba has remained the overwhelming choice in the starting XI.

Shaw has reportedly fallen out with United manager Jose Mourinho, and he has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford since the arrival of the Special One at the start of last season.

The 22-year-old has been granted only six starts in the Premier League this term, and his time at United appears to be coming to an end.

Southampton's English midfielder James Ward-Prowse (L) vies with Manchester United's English defender Luke Shaw during the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Southampton at Old Trafford in Manchester, north west England, o

Per Nursey, Arsenal and Chelsea continue to monitor Shaw, and he will be a popular target in the summer.

Injury has been cruel to the player, and he appeared set to become one of the best defenders in the world when he arrived in Manchester in 2014.

Shaw had exploded on to the scene with Saints, but a serious leg injury in his early days at United saw his aspirations crumble at the club.

Mourinho clearly doesn't fancy the player, and the defender has been subject to criticism from the technical area on rare outings from the bench.
