Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Rumors: Rams Talked with Giants About Deal for WR

The Los Angeles Rams have discussed a trade for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard reported Monday. 

According to Leonard, the Giants would want a first-round pick at the very least plus other assets in return for Beckham, who's entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Beckham's contract situation would likely be a consideration for the Giants if they were to trade him this offseason.

In an interview with UNINTERRUPTED in July 2017, the three-time Pro Bowler said he wants to be the highest-paid player in the league with his next deal:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also reported Monday that Beckham "will not set foot on a field" without having an agreement on a new contract.

Giants co-owner added fuel to the fire regarding Beckham's future when he didn't rule out the possibility of making a trade.

"I can't answer that one way or the other," Mara said, per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert. "We're certainly not shopping him. Again, when you're coming off a season when you're 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldn't say that anyone is untouchable."

The Rams would be a logical fit for Beckham. An offense with Beckham, Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Cooper Kupp would have the potential to be one of the best in the NFL. And Beckham would give Los Angeles the clear No. 1 wideout it lacks after Sammy Watkins signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Acquiring Beckham would, however, present some salary cap challenges for general manager Les Snead. Like Beckham, Aaron Donald is in the final year of his rookie deal, and re-signing him should be a priority for Los Angeles. Gurley and Marcus Peters, meanwhile, are free agents after the 2019 season—assuming the Rams trigger their fifth-year options.

Adding Beckham would clearly have its benefits for the Rams, but it'd come with consequences as well if the team envisioned the 25-year-old as part of its long-term future.
