Patriots S Duron Harmon Arrested for Trying to Bring Marijuana into Costa Rica

Rob GoldbergMar 24, 2018

New England Patriots safety Duron Harmon was arrested Friday in Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica, according to La Nacion (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).

He was reportedly caught trying to enter the country with 58 grams of marijuana, which he hid inside a soda can. The 27-year-old was sent back to the United States after being temporarily detained.

Harmon was a third-round pick in the 2013 draft out of Rutgers and has remained a key part of the Patriots defense, appearing in 79 of a possible 80 regular-season games. Although he often comes off the bench and started only three games in 2017, he earns plenty of playing time.

Per Pro Football Reference, the versatile safety played 66 percent of snaps this past season. He also finished with a team-high and career-best four interceptions.

Harmon has so far lived up to his four-year extension he signed last offseason worth up to $20 million.

However, there is a potential out in the contract after the 2018 season with limited dead cap included. If this latest incident comes with NFL discipline, it could hurt his future with the team.
