Ndamukong Suh Rumors: Jets Made Biggest Contract Offer to Free-Agent DT

Kyle NewportMar 23, 2018

The New York Jets have emerged as serious contenders in the Ndamukong Suh sweepstakes.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets have made an offer to the free-agent defensive tackle. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it is the highest offer Suh has on the table.

Per Spotrac, the Jets currently have the fifth-most cap space in the NFL at $37.9 million.

Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports noted the Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Titans are also in the running for the five-time Pro Bowler's services. He has reportedly not made an official visit to New York, however.

In 2017, he recorded 47 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defended.

It's not clear if Suh is prioritizing winning, money or a combination of both in free agency this time around. When he was last on the open market, he scored a six-year, $114 million contract with the Miami Dolphins that made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. He was released just three years into that deal.

The eight-year veteran has made the playoffs three times in his career, failing to advance past the first round each time. If the 31-year-old decides chasing that elusive Super Bowl ring is his top priority after signing a record-breaking contract last time around, he could take less in order to go to a winning team.
