Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Want Manuel Lanzini in Latest Rumours

Gill ClarkMar 23, 2018

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in bringing West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini to the club in the summer.

The 25-year-old is seen as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who left Anfield for Barcelona in the January transfer window, per Argentinian newspaper Ole (h/t Sport Witness).

Lanzini is a key member of the West Ham squad and has three goals and five assists for the struggling Hammers in the Premier League this season. The club are just one place above the bottom three with eight games left to play and will have to fight for their top-flight survival.

The atmosphere around the club is also pretty toxic, with supporters angered by the board. West Ham have issued lifetime bans to fans who invaded the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Burnley at the London Stadium, per Indy Football:

Given the situation at the club, Lanzini could be forgiven for being tempted by a move away, although West Ham will offer him a new deal when they secure their top-flight future, per Ken Dyer at the Evening Standard

The Argentinian has said he is happy at West Ham but does not know what will happen next, per the club's official website.

This is not the first time Liverpool have been linked with Lanzini, and if West Ham are relegated, the Reds will fancy their chances of landing the midfielder.

However, he may not be a priority, as Liverpool have actually improved since the departure of Coutinho, per Telegraph Football:

Klopp has said the team are "less predictable" without the Brazilian, per The Telegraph's Chris Bascombe.

The Reds also appear to have other transfer targets and have been linked with a £70 million move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson, per Steve Bates of the Sunday People (h/t the Mirror).

West Ham would be loath to lose Lanzini, as not only does he score and create goals, his creativity is invaluable. However, if they are relegated, they may find it difficult to hold on to their star man, and other clubs will look to take advantage.
