Manchester United Transfer News: Inter Name Milan Skriniar Price Amid Rumours

Rory MarsdenMar 23, 2018

Inter Milan have reportedly placed a €70 million-80 million (£61 million-70 million) price tag on centre-back Milan Skriniar as they look to ward off interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal.

According to Emanuele Tramacere of Calciomercato.com, Inter are keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old after his fine debut campaign at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri signed him from Sampdoria for €23 million (£20 million) in July, and he has become a stalwart of Serie A's third-meanest defence.

In 28 Italian top-flight matches this season, Inter have conceded just 21 goals—a defensive record bettered only by those of Juventus and Napoli—and Skriniar has played every minute of the campaign.

He has also proved himself to be a useful goal threat, as he has found the net on four occasions, most recently scoring the opener in a 2-0 victory over Benevento in February.

The reason he has attracted attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs, though, is his phenomenal defensive work.

He is an adept ball-playing defender, but most notably, Skriniar is fantastic at making the right decisions to snuff out opposition attacks and intervene at crucial moments.

Eurosport's Siavoush Fallahi recently heaped praise on the Slovakia international:

At 23, Skriniar is still young, especially for a defender, and he is only likely to improve as he gains more experience.

It is little surprise, then, that he is being eyed by a number of top clubs, especially United.

The Red Devils have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League this season, but their best defender, Eric Bailly, is worryingly injury prone. Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, are unreliable.

There is no guarantee that slapping an €80 million price tag on Skriniar will deter United from moving for him in the summer, but it is clear Inter are not prepared to let him go easily.
