Jordan Matthews, Patriots Reportedly Agree to Contract After Brandin Cooks Trade

Three years, three different uniforms for Jordan Matthews

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Matthews found a new home Thursday after agreeing to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots following a trade that sent Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams

After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills along with a third-round pick last offseason in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby. It proved to be a tough year in Buffalo for the wideout.

In his first and only season with the Bills, he had just 25 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. His season was hampered by thumb and knee/ankle injuries, all of which required surgery.

The fifth-year wideout out of Vanderbilt has 250 career catches for 2,955 yards and 20 scores.

As long as he is healthy, Matthews can be a playmaker for New England. He racked up 800-plus yards in each of his first three years in the league before dealing with injuries in 2017.

Adding Matthews to this receiving corps gives Tom Brady yet another weapon at his disposal. With Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan and Julian Edelman, the Patriots quarterback already has some playmakers to throw to—and that doesn't include a talented group of running backs led by Rex Burkhead.

While Edelman knows how to move the chains and find the end zone, the veteran wideout is listed at just 5'10". The 6'3", 212-pound Matthews provides size on the outside.

The fact that Matthews spent last season in the AFC East should help him transition to New England. He had eight catches for 107 yards in two games against the New York Jets, although he missed both meetings with the Miami Dolphins.
