Bradley Chubb Draft Rumors: DE to Visit Giants After Jason Pierre-Paul Trade

Rob GoldbergMar 22, 2018

With a need for a pass-rusher, the New York Giants could potentially target North Carolina State star Bradley Chubb with the No. 2 overall pick.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the team has already held a private workout with the defensive end, and he is set to visit the facility in a few weeks.

The Giants traded Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday in exchange for a third-round pick. The teams also swapped fourth-round picks.

Pierre-Paul led the Giants with 8.5 sacks last season, but dealing him clears a $12.5 million cap hit from the roster, per Spotrac.

New York needs to replace his production, though, and both Will Brinson of CBS Sports and Ross Tucker of NBC Sports believe Chubb is the answer:

Chubb totaled 20 sacks over the last two seasons plus 44 tackles for loss, earning the Bronko Nagurski Award in 2017 as the best defensive player in college football.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller lists the edge-rusher as the No. 3 overall player in the class behind only running back Saquon Barkley and guard Quenton Nelson.

The Giants are a bit of a wild card at the top of the draft with many holes throughout the roster. Barkley, Nelson or Chubb would each fill a huge need, although the Giants could also draft a quarterback to eventually replace Eli Manning.

The uncertainty could lead to plenty of drama on draft day.
