Liverpool Given Max Meyer Boost After Schalke Contract Talks Stall
Schalke 04 president Clemens Tonnies has revealed that Max Meyer's contract talks are not progressing after the player's agent cancelled a meeting with the club.
This is good news for Liverpool who, according to the Mirror, are "keeping a close eye" on the midfielder whose deal expires in the summer.
He has already rejected two offers of a new contract from Schalke, and Tonnies admitted renewed attempts to keep him at the club have not been successful, per German outlet Bild (via the Mirror): "I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice. If someone doesn't want to talk to me, I cannot change that."

It is looking increasingly likely the 22-year-old will be a free agent in the summer, and a number of clubs will be looking to snap him up.
Along with Liverpool, Arsenal have also been heavily linked with the Germany international, who has been touted as a long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla, per Michael Keshani of Football.London.
Like the diminutive Spaniard, Meyer has a number of strings to his bow.
Previously thought of as an attacking midfielder, he has spent most of the 2017-18 season playing in a deeper central role, where he has thrived.
His ability on the ball and fine link-up play would make him an attractive-enough target, but in 2017-18, he has shown himself to be a fantastic distributor from deep and an adept defensive midfielder, per WhoScored.com:
Liverpool already have Naby Keita arriving at Anfield in the summer, but they also look set to lose Emre Can, per David Maddock in the Mirror.
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson has endured another campaign in which injuries have caused him to be regularly absent.
Even with the upcoming addition of Keita, Liverpool need added depth in midfield, and they could do a lot worse than snapping up Meyer, who has the potential to develop into a world-class player.
