Baker Mayfield Draft Rumors: QB to Work Out for Dolphins, Browns, Jets
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield will work out for the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns on Thursday and the New York Jets on Saturday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
He previously worked out for the Buffalo Bills on Monday.
Mayfield is considered one of the top four quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL draft, alongside Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and Josh Allen, and it's possible all four could be off the board in the first four or five picks next month.
And as B/R's Matt Miller noted, "Darnold, Allen, Rosen and Mayfield are all ranked similarly. All have good strengths but some weaknesses that scare me."
While either Rosen or Darnold seem most likely to be the top overall pick, it wouldn't be a shock if Mayfield or Allen were off the board first, either. And Mayfield has a strong chance of going No. 3 overall, with The MMQB's Peter King reporting that "many around the league see [the] Jets focused on [Mayfield]."
Certainly, he presents a strong resume. This year's Heisman Trophy winner threw for 4,627 yards, 43 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 70.5 percent of his passes in 2017. It was his third consecutive season with at least 3,700 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and a completion percentage of 68 percent or higher.
Robert Klemko of The MMQB offered a deeper dive on what Mayfield brings:
So it isn't surprising that a number of teams want to get a longer look at Mayfield. He remains one of the top players in this class and a potential franchise-changer at quarterback.
