Kyrie Irving to Have 2nd Opinion on Knee Injury, May Not Join Team on Road Trip

Kyrie Irving's knee injury is causing the Boston Celtics star more problems than originally anticipated. 

The Celtics announced Irving will get a second opinion on his knee and may not travel for the upcoming road trip. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN added there's no structural damage and rest might be the best remedy.

Tony Massarotti of 98.5 The Sports Hub first reported Irving would seek another opinion.

Massarotti noted Irving's options will be for him to play through the injury or get the screws removed and be unable to play.

Wojnarowski reported on March 12 that the Celtics were confident Irving's knee soreness was only tendinitis and wouldn't cause him to miss significant time. 

Irving's last appearance came during Boston's March 11 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He has missed each of the past three games and has already been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. 

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in a radio interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich last week (via Jay King of MassLive) that Irving could eventually need surgery, but the team expects him to be "fresh and healthy" for the playoffs. 

Irving has appeared in 60 games for the Celtics this season. The five-time All-Star leads the team in scoring (24.4 points) and assists (5.1) per game.
